Sumo Lounge has over a decade of experience making a variety of bean bag chair products. Rather than using traditional micro-beans in their bags, they use SumoFoam, which relieves more pressure, is less noisy, and is generally more comfortable. With a competitive pricepoint, Sumo's bean bag chairs are enticing to customers. However, there are less choices than other brands and durability was a concern for some customers.

Sumo Lounge has been making bean bag chairs since 2004. They focus on traditional bean bag chair designs with bean bags both large and small to choose from. Some of their innovations have focused on their fill, which is their SumoFoam technology, which is micro-foam that adapts more than traditional synthetic beans. Most customers like their experience with Sumo Lounge's array of products, but there were some that had issues with long lasting comfort.
Below, we'll go through the details of their eight different varieties of bean bag chairs to discuss the ins and outs of their designs and what customers are saying. Below, find each of their popular bags reviewed, ranked largest to smallest.
First, we'll go through their Maximus:
The Outside: The Maximus is the largest offering by Sumo Lounge at 8' wide and 3' tall. It fits two people comfortably, with a responsive but pressure relieving feel, and can even fit three people for those that want to get snuggly. It comes with two different cover materials -- cordoroy and synthetic blend. The color offerings include over 15 solid colors to choose from.
The Insides: The inside of the Maximus is 130 lbs of Superior SumoFoam that is small microfoam that relieves pressure and contouring for a subtle squish.
What Customers Say: Most customers like their Maximus, describing it as a comfortable bean bag that is best for sleeping and laying down. Those that had complaints mentioned durability concerns on the cover layer. Others wanted more foam comfort within.
Next, we'll go through their cylindrical Titanium:
The Outside: The Titanium bean bag is wider than other options, which is ideal for those that are excited about a couch replacement. This bean bag can easily fit three people or double as a place to sleep length-wise. It comes in over 15 colors and both synthetic fabric or cordoroy.
The Insides: The insides are made of 85 lbs of Superior Sumofoam that is overstuffed for a good responsive texture, but also is pressure relieving.
What Customers Say: Most customers love their Titanium bean bag, with some describing it as a good mattress alternative. There were others that wished it was stuffed with more foam, though most were able to get help from Sumo's customer service team.
Next, we'll go through their Gigantor:
The Outside: The Gigantor bean bag is a two person bean bag that is best for those that want to cuddle up next to each other for some light reading, to game, or watch TV. It is 6' in diameter and 3' high, which provides enough room for lots of stretching out. Like other Sumo products, it comes with over 15 color options. It is large and fluffy on appearance and will contour around the body to provide an excellent cradle for two people. Also, it is often on sale for a more competitive price for the size than others.
The Insides: It has 80 lbs of pressure relieving Sumofoam, which is enough to gently squish without sinking too deep.
What Customers Say: Most customers love their Gigantor bean bags -- with common uses being gaming, lounging, and napping. It is one of the most popular sizes because of the value versus competitors, with most having a good experience with delivery and customer service. The one-off complaint mentions durability concerns around the cover seams.
Next, we'll go through their Titan:
The Outside: The Titan is wider than it is long, which gives it a potato or cylindrical look. It can sit two people upright or be used to nap by one person. At 65 lbs, it is not too heavy for those that want to move it. With a nice responsive feel, it has over 15 colors to choose from including some wild colors like kiwi, orange, and rose pink microsuede.
The Insides: The insides are overstuffed with Superior Sumofoam that is contouring, while not sinking too deeply beneath you. This supportive, but cozy feel, makes this bean bag resistant enough for sitting and adjustable enough for laying down or slouching comfortably.
What Customers Say: Customers like the initial feel of the Sumo Titan, with many using it as a primary piece of living furniture. Those that had issues mentioned less foam than desired, though they mentioned Sumo's customer service were helpful.
Next, we'll go through their Sultan:
The Outside: The Sumo Sultan comes in microsuede, synthetic fur, or cordoroy. They are best suited for one person and have a traditional round shape. At 60 lbs, it is easy to move.
The Insides: The inside of the bean bag is filled with Superior Sumofoam. It is overstuffed and has a bit of give, making it ideal for sitting and slouching without it dipping too far onto the floor.
What Customers Say: The Sultan is the ideal one person bean bag for larger gamers, those that want extra space, or those that want to get extra snuggly with a special person. Most customers find the bean bag to be responsive and fluffy. Those that had issues wished for more filling.
Next, we'll go through their Omni(+):
The Outside: The Omni is a pillow shaped bag that is ideal for one person, either for laying down or sitting, strattling-style or on the floor. It comes in over 5 colors and is ~15 lbs.
The Insides: The insides are filled with Superior Sumofoam, which leads to a responsive and adaptive surface. You can easily fold the bag and fluff it like a pillow.
What Customers Say: Customers have mixed reviews about this bean bag. It is best as an oversized pillow or as an addition to another piece of furniture. Some found it difficult to use for sitting upright.
Next, we'll go through their Gamer:
The Outside: The Gamer is a smaller traditional bean bag that fits one person comfortably at 50 lbs, 2.5' tall, and 4' wide. It is responsive to the touch and conforms to the body for a good all around feel. For those that are larger or want to lay down, it may be too small for you.
The Insides: The insides are made of Superior Sumofoam that is tightly packed for the right blend of pressure relief and response.
What Customers Say: The customers mention a well-rounded bean bag with a good initial feel. Those that had issues mentioned the durability of the bag, with some experiencing issues with breaking down at the seams.
Lastly, we'll go through their Sway:
The Outside: The Sway is a small bean bag chair that has a upright chair design, similar to a recliner. Its dimensions are just big enough for one person at 3.5' wide and 36 lbs. Once unpacked and fluffed, it puffs up to its full size for a comfortable, cushioning contour.
The Insides: The insides of the bean bag are packed with Supreme Sumofoam, which blends support with pressure relief. Although it is packed tightly, this seat is best for those of an average body size.
What Customers Say: This bean bag chair provides good pressure relief and customers are pleased with the feel of sitting upright to play games or watch TV. However, some had issues with durability and long-lasting support.
Sumo Lounge's bean bags are on the squishier side when it comes to initial feel. There are many that felt that they needed more fill to be properly comfortable. Others found that they sunk lower than expected over time.
Sumo bean bags are ideal for those that don't have many cover design needs as they only come in select solid color designs. However, those that aren't too picky with color palettes and want an affordable and squishy bean bag chair, should definitely check out Sumo Lounge. Those that are looking for a more durable and supportive option should see Our Full List of Bean Bag Reviews for a full breakdown of available offerings and how they will work with your body.
One of my friends owns a sumo and as soon as I sat down in it I knew I had to get one. Sent my order in on memorial day weekend but didn't see the payment come out of my card. Instead of waiting like I should have I ordered another one a few days later. When I checked my account again I noticed the ORIGINAL order had gone through. FML. Called sumo and was helped by a gentleman named Brad. SUPER helpful and the call lasted about 4 minutes and everything was fixed. My sumo isn't even here and I'm already a happy customer. Thanks sumo/brad :D
My family owns a couple sumo sultan bean bag chairs. We have had them for a couple years. They are always the topic of conversation when people visit our play room. They are comfortable enough to watch a movie or fall asleep on. We had a microsuade cover that ripped unfortunately so I purchased another one. Customer service made a mistake with our order so they sent the right chair cover without additional cost. I appreciated that.
My entire family loves it. The friends that have come over loved it as well. We are planning to buy more soon. Would recommend to anyone.
My fiancé bought me the Sumo Sultan Microsuede for my birthday and I gotta say, I love it. I'm not a small guy and this thing just sucks me right in. It is now all I sit or lay on while playing PlayStation or watching tv. The way it fluffs right back up with a few shakes makes it so easy to change your positioning from sitting to laying. I can't say enough good thing about it. If you don't have one, you need one. If you already have one, you know what I'm talking about. Thank you Sumo :)
I purchased the Sumo Sultan Corduroy for my hubby for his birthday in June. So cozy. I cuddle up with the kiddies in it during the day when he is at work. The quality is unbeatable and customer service is even better. I exchanged a few emails and received prompt, courteous responses. Best customer service that I have experienced in a very long time. I searched long and hard before deciding on Sumo and am certainly happy I did. I agree with others; if you don't have one, you need one. Fantastic all around. Thank you, Sumo!
Bought the microsuede Sultan and love it. The most comfortable beanbag I have owned. The microsuede is easy to clean and holds up to a beating. I have dogs and a toddler and both of them call it home. Everytime friends come over, they take it over. Great value. Once I get a bigger house, I will be buying another.
Hey! Don’t want to ramble.... was disappointed at first, it didn’t seem as poooofy as it should. Replied to their follow up email on shipping with my thoughts and BAM. Their replies were quick and friendly and wanted to make it right. I followed their advise, and sure enough... 100% user error. ITS SOOOOO POOOOOOOFY NOW!!!!! You sit, you sink into a cradle of smooosh!! Even our fur babies love it! Hubby and I are so in love, we are ordering another right away! I’m driving my coworkers bonkers, all I talk about is this product! Thank you Sumo lounge for bringing pooof and smooosh into our lives! Xo
This bean bag is a perfect addition to my home. At first I was a little surprised by the sheer size of this model, but once I found a good spot for it, it won me over. It's kind of like laying on a cloud. My go to spot for a mid day power nap. I highly recommend it.
I love my Sumo Omni. It has held up to time and use as a chair, sleeping pillow, and most importantly a cat toy. My three legged feline took to our sumo with a passion. She honed her ability to flip, pounce, and maneuver on uneasy surfaces with this chair. At least a couple hours everyday are spent flattening the bag out, and crying for us to fluff it up again for maximum playtime. Such a wonderful product, and I can't wait to get another.
I bought the Sumo Sultan Microsuede for my fiancé for his birthday and he LOVES it! I typically sneak in a nap on it when he isn't home because it's SO soft and incredibly comfortable. I was also pleasantly surprised to see how easy it was to fluff up and put my own groove in as my fiancé is quite a bit larger than me! Shipping was super speedy and customer service was A+ from start to finish!
We have the Gigantor Lounge, and we love it. It's so large, soft, and great to lounge about on. It was very easy to unpack and "assemble," as well.
I wish I could give you zero stars - Literally the worst customer service experience I've ever had. Your support and warehouse teams are the laziest and most unprofessional I've ever encountered. I'm sure there is a joke about lounging around on the job in there somewhere but I'm actually too annoyed to zing you.
Bought a Sumo Titanium in Microsuede. Initial impression left me deflated, kinda like the product stuffing at first (so much vacuum suckage). Customer service rectified my concerns with complimentary extra stuffing, and now a month later it's near bursting. Also, this product rocks with kids on pizza night, they love to climb on, jump on, run into, and generally abuse it, and considering it doesn't show their wear, I approve of this product as parent friendly!
I have multiple products from Sumo, two omni chairs, a gigantor, and a titanium.I want happy with an aspect of the titanium, contracted customer service and they were prompt in solving the issue (not enough filler). They are an awesome company and deserve your business if you're thinking about buying. Excellent company, excellent products, bar none customer service.
I LOVE my Gigantor. I put it in my office at work and everybody that walks by stops and makes a comment about how much they want one because of how comfortable it is. I wanted it to sit in for reading but I figured out that it’s not a good place for that because I tend to fall asleep easily while sitting in it.
We have the Sumo Sway Couple and Sumo Solace beanbag chairs and absolutely love them! Quality chairs in unique shapes with a bit of back support thrown in. They're so comfortable!
purchased the Omni last year, and just purchased another!!! So in love with these. Great quality, fast shipping and awesome customer service!! What are you waiting for!!!
Awesome. We've had 5 bean bags delivered. Every time it has been super quick and the product has been perfect. We are in love with sumo bean bags. Lots of great memories with them.
Great product, I just love it! Looks good at any place, and gives you the best naps ever!
Good. A little hard
Excellent!
I have had my Sumo Omni for over five years now and it is still my grandkids' favorite place to hang out. It is comfortable, super easy to clean and has held up very well for the amount of wear and tear it has received. I like that it can be molded and arranged to either sit in, lay on or prop yourself up in for reading or relaxing. Very versatile!
It's comfortable enough for study, reading, or probably even some console gaming. That's where the usage in conjunction with home electronics comes in! (Although I think sitting on it for too long without readjusting would be negative influence to your back.) Making it a different shape for sitting every time is definitely great though; it changes as you change instead of being in a static (And possibly boring) position all the time.
They're okay for busy kids and rambunctious pets, but they don't hold up that well
Amazing quality. Bought it for my wife to add to her reading corner and decided to try it myself. I'm a big guy and it held me comfortably. It's well made and deliver was fast. If your looking for comfortable furniture at a reasonable price check out sumo bean bags...
The chairs/ couch bed are comfortable and very well made. The kids just love them and they are very durable, unlike other models we have purchased in the past from other companies.
I have to wonder if the other reviewers received counterfeit items. I received my bags directly from Sumo and they are quality made and have no rips, even after taking some abuse from my 5 year-old. They're not cheap, but they are quality.
The Sumo Omni seems to be made of durable material and is a comfortable item. However, the photographs used in all of the company's examples are a little misleading. For one thing, the girl in the photos is very petite. The average person is not going to be sitting on it in the way she is, because the average person is not five feet tall. The other issue is that in all of the examples, they are clearly double-stuffing the bean bag. To achieve a lot of the configured positions shown in examples, you would need to spend another fifty bucks to buy additional Sumo "beans" to fill the bag with. The amount of beans or stuffing that comes by default is just enough so that if you hold the bag up on its end and shook it a whole bunch, the beans would reach about a foot or so high. In conclusion, this is a solid product and probably the best of breed for the price. However, if you're an averaged sized adult you are going to want the spring for the extra stuffing, which will raise the price significantly.
I've read all the bad reviews below and I really had a totally different experience with my Sumo bag. I've had it for a year and was just looking for some filler beads when I saw these reviews. Yes, after a year the beads will be compressed and you will need to add beads. Just like any bean bag chair. I shopped around before I bought this and was not going to pay five hundred dollars for a bean bag from similar companies. For the price and free shipping I think it is a great value. For the record I'm 6 feet and 250 pounds. I have no problem getting comfortable in this bag. Getting out is another story, haha. I ordered the grey so grey is grey. I find the material comfortable in summer and winter and it's pretty bulletproof. I have teenagers and two dogs that occasionally get a paw or claw up on it. It's been drug from room to room and jumped /flopped on a thousand times. I see no signs of wear anywhere. The material is kind of slick but not sticky or vinyl feeling like those old bean bags. Added bonus is dog hair doesn't stick to it and if you have a spill it wipes right up. I'm not a shill for the company. I'm currently unemployed in this great economy of ours. I'm sure glad the stimulus fixed that pesky recession. But I digress. I just wanted to post here that in this day and age of marignal products and so many things coming from overseas that I was happy with the value and quality of this purchase and thought some might find it helpful to weigh my opinion with the others here. Thank you and good night.
The bag is small and very understuffed compared to the pictures on the web. It doesn't really retain any recognizable shape, but its serviceable enough after you add additional stuffing. If the customer service people weren't so rude and the return process wasn't so cost prohibitive, I'd return this for a refund.
I tried to leave this review on their website, but after a few days of submission, it did not show up. So I believe their reviews are a lie and to give customers a fails sense of quality product. WARNING!! These chairs come with an on going cost! My wife and I bought an Omni chair each in 2007. Less than 4 years the chairs have deflated to half it's original size. The FAQ states `Does polystyrene decompress over time?' "It can and it depends on usage." I think this statement is as useful as stating this chair will eventually break. My wife and I weigh less than 125 each, and we sit in these chairs only when we are at home, which is not all that often. Sumo's support is fast to respond via EMail, but not very helpful. I was told that I need two bags of refills, a bag per chair. That would cost over $100, which is more than 2/3 of a chair's price! I think Sumo should show some statistics regarding the longevities of their chairs.
For all the reviews on here about the company's customer service being so awful, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone complaining about how uncomfortable this thing is. I bought mine two years ago and have probably spent 20 minutes on it during that time, and that's a stretch. It won't keep any form while you're sitting on it and the shell is so thick and uncomfortable it seems like you're sitting on a rock. I wonder how much they payed those models to make this thing look like something to sit on. That's talent! All it's done for me is take up space. Forget selling it to get some of my money back, I'm concerned I won't be able to give mine away just to get it out of my house. This thing is money down the drain.
I have owned my Sumo Omni for a little over a year and have used it somewhat sparingly. To my surprise it has worn down in spots and has a hole in it. There are also many other weakened spots waiting to wear away. I highly doubt this is "space age rip-proof nylon" and even the company rep told me there is no such thing as "rip-proof", strange since it is plastered all over there website. I contacted the company and was told that the warranty was only for 6 months (they also suggested a bike tire patch). I guess they know that there product doesn't have much of a useful life after 6 months, I wish I had known. Buyer beware this is way overpriced and poor quality. The company puts a lot more money into advertising than it does into the product itself. I wish I never bought this and I only hope I save some people money and frustration in buying this inferior product.
I will first state yes, the colors depicted are a bit off. The orange and green are more neon than they appear on site (look at youtube videos). But the red and silver I have seen in person, and is about right. And yes, it's a bit smaller than I thought it would be. The models they use are probably a hair over 5ft tall. But given that, it is very comfortable to just sit back and crash. Or sit back and watch some TV, play some games, read a book. It's a novel way to chill. Ideally, I'd have a few of these for when people come over, but room for it might be a problem. If anyone has a dedicate game room/basement lounge, definitely grab a few. Easy to move around, easy to clean. My cousin has had a few (yes, 3) for nearly 2yrs+ without a problem. Not sure if it's better to buy from here or direct from sumolounge though.
Bought the Sultan-sized bean bag. Used minimally over the course of three months. Now there are large tears in the lining despite their "rip proof" claims. Called customer support who was essentially useless. They offered free shipping with the purchase of a new liner for full price of $60 stating that they only stand behind their products one month after purchase. It seems like others have had similar issues. The bean bag is already priced quite high. If you have to replace the liner every year due to poor quality product, it makes for a very expensive beanbag indeed. Best to avoid the product and this company all together.
My Sumo Omni bag is falling apart in less than a year. To make matters worse, this bag was only used about 25 times. Sumo Lounge's best offer to remedy the problem is 15% off next item. Dom was nice in trying to help, but clearly they do not put any guarantee behind their products. After sending pictures of both blown threaded seams and a manufacturing defect (zipper not attached under Velcro), they still refused to replace the item. Save yourself some headache of vacuuming up tons of tiny foam beads every time you sit in the bag, and spend your money elsewhere.
I ordered a brown Omni for my husband for Christmas 2013. It took nearly 3 months and several phone calls, emails etc. to finally receive it. I was offered a matching ottoman as a gift because of the extreme delay. I had to wait nearly 2 months for the ottoman because it was backordered, then forgotten. We ended up getting a second chair as a gift. Although the chairs and ottoman are very comfortable, the quality leaves a lot to be desired. After just over a year of usage, the fabric is splitting along the seams and the beads are leaking all over my floor. I have no idea how to fix this as the fabric itself is tearing from the seams (my husband is under 200 lbs, i'm about 130 lbs and nobody larger has used them). I cannot simply make new covers unless I want millions of little Styrofoam beads all over my house when I transfer them into the new cover. Between the terrible customer service, the extreme delay in shipping and awful quality I would not recommend ANYONE to buy these products.
The reason I did not give it 5 out of 5 star is because the color (orange) is a little bit off from its website. It turned out more bright than what is advertised. The dark blue which my friend owns is the exact color. Other than the color it's one of the most comfortable bean bag chair I have ever sat on. It doubles as a work chair for me. I haven't gotten it long enough to rate if it will deflate or when. I especially like the support on the back and you can mold it into basically anything you like. I can understand that the covers aren't the softest nor would you want it to be given the chance it might rip if it were made of anything else. Good bean bag overall, a reasonable price.
I have used this maybe a dozen times. Its been less than a years, and it is ripping at multiple seams. My girlfriend and I have called and e-mailed countless times, and we get absolutely nothing. It isn't worth it, this company is absolute garbage that over charges for a poorly built product, then laughs in the customer's face.
Customer service is next to nothing. Quality of bean bag is too hard.
The bag will fit in any type of room without taking it over. Great addition to my basement with ultimate comfort. I fall asleep watching movies all the time. Sweet price for this type of comfort.
