The Pancake pillow is a revolutionary pillow concept that is sold online. It features a six in one pillow concept that includes six inner pillows so that customers can customize the fluffiness of the pillow to their unique requirements without having to buy multiple options. The pillow gets good reviews overall, but there are some problems with support and softness with some mentioning that the inner pillows are too soft to be adequately supportive.

The Pancake pillow is a customizable pillow that comes with six pillows within the outer cover. These pillows are each the same softness and flatness, but can be removed to customize the height of the pillow. There are some complaints about this pillow. Some customers reported experiencing heat retention. Some others commented that the inner pillows were much too soft, and that there is lacking support due to the softness of the fill.
The Pancake pillows are filled with six flatter pillows that can be removed to adjust the height of the pillow. Within these sub-pillows is down alternative gel microfiber fill. This adjusts similar to down, but without harming animals in its creation. Some have found the inside material to retain heat.
The outer cover of the pillow is made of 100% cotton to provide a soft outer feel against the face, though it won't whick away moisture.
Although the highest configuration of the Pancake pillow is fluffy at first, customers report that it is much less supportive than expected with some describing their heads sinking in more than desired. Due to that, we consider the pillow to lean towards flatter and is less supportive overall.
The Pancake pillow is best for those that want a softer adjustable pillow and don't sleep warm at night. For those that are looking for an adjustable option, but with more support, check out our reviews for the best pillows.
best Pillow Ive ever owned, I will purchase another when this one quits...... almost a year so far; and alls well
6 pillows in one case - awesome!
Why haven’t pillows like this been offered for years? Such a smart idea. But mainly it is the perfect pillow. Soooo confortable!!
bought two of these last year. I cannot get the material inside to fluff up again. Tried putting them in the dryer with no heat and they still came out like matted fur.
Love them
I had faith in this idea of being able to adjust my pillow height, but the filling in these pillows is just way too soft and compresses so much that it negates the whole height adjustment aspect. If the pillow is completely packed with all of the smaller pillows, it still compresses to a normal pillow height when you lay your head on it and when it's maybe 3 small pillows full, it's like laying your head flat on your mattress but with a bunch of material all in your face and ear hole. Maybe if they put firmer material in the pillows this might make sense, but it's just too soft and fluffy for it to be effective.
It was just weird. Innovative idea, but the concept isn't all there. I would discourage this purchase.
I wish I could give this pillow a 10 out of 5!
I like that these are super soft and very thin, and that you can add or subtract, but the zipper for the case that they came in ripped right away, so that was a total bummer; they need to be zipped in so they'll stay in position. They also got a little lumpy after several washes. I like thin pillows, so it has worked for me, but no one else in my family liked them. (Better for me!)
I like the idea behind this pillow; but if you're like me, and have been desperately searching for a FIRM pillow, this is not what you want. Especially at this price. Maybe for a larger person that can use the pillow without removing any of the layers, it might be firm enough. But I doubt it. Any removal of the layers and trying to get them back in the case?? Yeah... good luck with that. I absolutely hate a pillow that is so soft, once you lay your head down it almost smothers you from in front and from behind, and this pillow does that. There is NO support. I. WANT. FIRM. SUPPORT. The only thing I have found that works are the neck pillows that I buy from the physical therapist's office. I have been sleeping on those for years simply because I can't find a normal pillow with the same support. I might just have to figure out how to make my own.
I absolutely love this pillow! It’s my best pillow ever. Love the ability to “adjust” the pillow.
Not impressed. I've been shopping for a pillow that doesn't give me a head/neck ache for what seems like years. My bed is COVERED w/pilllows, which the furred kids love and they are all comfy for sitting up in bed; but, for sleeping, this pillow was another bust. What gave it the 3rd star is that it's multiple pillows in a decent/well made pillow case and I was able to take out a couple of the inserts to make it more comfortable. Which resulted in two pillow, so spending 79 didn't make me crazy. I'd spend 2x that on a great pillow; but, the problem is, there isn't one made yet!
Such a great idea, but it didn't really work for me. The "pancakes" are thin. They seem durable and well made, and it's easy to slide them in or out of the zipped cover. I tried several combinations. But they are so soft that you squash down into the pillow, and then you have loft without real support. I tried sliding one pancake in on top of my flattest sturdy pillow, and that worked OK.
This pillow has changed my life. After a neck fracture 3 years ago, I have not had a pain free night until I slept on the pancake pillow. By using only two of the inserts my head and neck are perfectly aligned for a good nights sleep.
Comfortable and well worth the money.g
I love the concept of this pillow -- and had to buy it because I always need an extra pillow for the summerhouse or in a chair. These are good quality, but be aware they are very flat when you pull them out (hence the word pancake). I have found a use for them.
Was excited to tryout, but disappointed. Two pillows...not enough and three too much! Ugh!
Your supposed to set up the pillow to your liking but all of them offer no support. Maybe if they had been foam it would have better support. Would have send it back but i tossed the packaging away.
I like it overall but not for the way it’s suppose to be used. I initially tried it how they recommended by removing or adding layers of pillows. It just never worked quite right. I hated my purchase. I got fed up and was going to throw it out, but decided to give it one last shot. This time I ripped open pillows and put all the stuffing into one pillow case and used it like that instead. I ended up using about 3 and a half pillow fillings. Now it’s great and to the firmness I want. Not exactly what they advertised, but it worked out for me this way.
My wife loves it for her bad neck and back.
I used this pillow to gift an adult grandson, who often has sleeping issues. As a gamer , who has attended some of the finest hotels on the east coast for conventions,, & has raved over the sleeping accommodations , this pillow SCORED A 10 on all counts. He was able to easily separate & make 2 perfect bed pillows. His report is glowing, his sleep has improved, & he has given both the product & his grandma kudos & much gratitude for a unique & wonderful experience.
At laaaaaaaaaast my love...Finally the pillow I have been searching for. I prefer super slim pillows so now I have 7! I use them individually and they feel great. Would by again.
I love this pillow
I am amazed at how versatile this pillow is for me. I normally split the pillow into 2 3-layer pillows. Then, if I need more support, I use both. But I usually just need 3 layers, then use the extra 3 as a "reading pillow" extra lift.
Great concept but it just didn’t work for me. I have military neck and it’s hard to find a pillow that works.
6 pillows to adjust the height you want.
Get one of these cases if you want to get the best value from your Pancake Pillow. We basically got two pillows for the price of one (except for the cost of the second case.
I bought these pillows (they come in a set of 6) because I needed a shallow pillow to use behind my back when driving that wouldn't be so deep as to push me forward in the seat. Taking one out of the set seemed to be the answer until I put my hand in the center and the stuffing in the pillow moved towards the outside and left nothing under my hand. Picking it up, all of the stuffing headed for the bottom of the pillow, leaving the batting at the top empty. In order to keep the stuffing in place, I would have to sew X-cross across the pillow myself and I don't think I want to be bothered. I don't know how anyone can be sleeping on only one or two, because their head would be solidly on the mattress. Returning.
Great idea. You'll like it.
Great idea, works well for adjusting when neck is sore.
I purchased this for my boyfriend. He’s been trying different pillows for years and has complained that nothing ever feels right. He was cautiously optimistic when I gave it to him. He loves that he can choose the fullness to his liking. He has had it now for about a month and tells me regularly how much better he’s sleeping with it. Totally worth it!!!
Love the ability to have the size I need. 3 inner pillows is what I like. I am a side and back sleeper. For my husband 2 was too low and 3 was too squishy. He is a pillow hugger and I’m an edge of the pillow sleeper. I have spurs on c4 & 5 and too high of a pillow kills my neck. This is great. If you are looking for firm for TV watching this could be just the ticket.
The Pancake Pillow is perfect. I was tired of waking up with a stiff neck. I would buy a pillow that seem the right thickness and firmness and after two weeks, it would be too flat. With 6 inserts, you can get the height just right and then adjust as needed over time. Easily adjustable and very comfortable. I am sleeping like a baby! Love this pillow! Tip: Buy an extra slipcase. You can then make a second pillow with the unused inserts.
I have tried them all including someone's pillow but it wasn't mine. Pancake pillow is by far the best. I love it and as they say, from my dead hand you'll get this pillow away from me.
I have only slept with this for 2 nights, but what a pleasure. If, like me, you need a soft, flat pillow... this is it. More expensive than I wanted to pay, but absolutely worth it. I use 1 of the 6 pillows included.
I got it in the spring so I have a few months of use on them. I love these pillows. I adjust mine at 2 layers and I have the other 4 pillows in another fluffy pillow to use when I just rest and read. Very good quality
I don’t think I’ve ever had a pillow that was truly a pleasure to sleep on... that is until I bought my Pancake. I’ve had it about six months and am thoroughly satisfied. I use 3 pancakes. I’ve tested 4 & 5 but 3 is best for me. No more sore neck or shoulder or restless sleep. Get one and find out for yourself!
it is a good product in that you get what you are supposed to get. I love the idea of a fully adjustable pillow but the over all pillow is too “mushy” for my tastes. I prefer the firmer memory foam pillows but they were too flat for me as a side sleeper. I combined a single “pancake” with my memory foam and got firm support at the right height. I am quite pleased with the result but I could have saved $ by buying a cheap pillow at Big Lots and removing 3/4 of the stuffing. But as a middle class consumer who is fortunate enough to have some disposable income I view this purchase not as a waste but as my contribution as one of the REAL job creators in this country - the hard working (but slowly eroding) middle class.
I have used this pillow for a long time now and it is WONDERFUL! I searched forever for a pillow I liked and never liked a thing until this. Now my whole family of 6 sleeps on these. Perfect for toddlers being introduced to a pillow for the first time. My kids use 1-2 inserts depending on the kido. I use 2 and my husband uses 3. Can't get a better pillow anywhere than this.
I like it. The only problem so far is that. None of my pillow case fit it. Its a Big pillow. and i only have three of the six in it. I'll check back.
If you've gotta have a slim pillow, this is the one. If 3 inserts is good, then you're actually getting two in one.
Not what bnb I expected
I like the adjustability by + or - layers. It is not as hotyr pillows I've tried. The price is quite steep, I think. I don't like the cover. The tags and zippers are intrusive.
I have spent hundreds of dollars on pillows over the years & finally found the right one. Twenty yrs ago, I had twelve pieces of bone removed from the first six vertebra in the back of my neck due to stenosis, have degenerative arthritis, spurs inside my cervical spinal canal, have had fusion surgery more recently and due to back problems, am a side sleeper. I have small shoulders that limit the number of pillows that are tolerable & as you can probably imagine, I have a lot of pain. A comfortable night's sleep is golden. The design of this pillow allows me to adjust it so that I have a good shot at my version of peaceful sleep. I wish I would have found it earlier. I don't leave home without it.
Does not provide any additional head or neck support than any other pillow I've used. Certainly not worth the high price in my opinion.
I’m sitting on my hotel king size bed, 5 of the 6 hotel pillows are on the floor, (my wife kept one), and I don’t have a small enough pillow for me - so I do my usual and roll up a bath towel. This is ridiculous, then I remember an ad I saw about layers of small pillows. I start searching on my phone and find the Pancake Pillow. I decide to order it. I read a little about some options and I change my order to include 2 extra pillowcases. I ordered them with Amazon Prime so they’re at our house when we get home. I put one layer in one pillowcase, two layers in the second pillowcase, and leave the remaining three layers in the original pillowcase. Bingo! I’ve got 3 pillows, each with different height and feel. I love it! What a deal!
The Best pillow I ever used. I love how I can remove or add for my comfort level...I recommend this for anyone.
not great
I have tried every pillow out there; memory foam, bamboo, my pillow, and all went in the garbage. Nothing was comfortable for me as a side sleeper with back issues. I saw the Pancake Pillow and decided to try. It was perfect the first night I tried it. I didn't have to get used to it or break it in. I use it fully stacked but you can take out a layer if you need. It never flattens or needs to be fluffed up. I highly recommend for anyone picky about their pillows.
Love it. I used it with two for awhile and then added a third after later.
I have been searching for years at a great cost, for a comfortable pillow, i finally have found the perfect pillow. I would give it ten stars if i could. I use 3 of the pillows and the other three into another pillow. Its the first time in years that i dont wake up with a stiff neck. Buy this pillow, soooo worth it.
I was very hopeful as this seemed like an exciting and perfect solution to customizing your pillow. Unfortunately no matter how many layers i used i felt no support from this pillow because of the type of fill used . Each layer feels like it is filled with whipped cream ! Sadly it offered no support just a lot of fluff.
Nicely adjustable. But, for me, way too soft. At any height, my head sinks and the pillow poofs up to cover my face and nose. Prefer firmer.
So good I bought a second one. We take out 2 pieces and use as extra pillow. 4 for the price of 2!!
Great idea to have an adjustable pillow height. I find four required to have any sense of sleeping on a pillow. This leaves two layers for future adjustment. The material used appears to be a good quality and has held up well.
Fabulous pillow..I love it...was able to adjust to my preference..best pillow I've ever had.
My first few months with this thing, I would easily give it 5 stars because it solved my constant neck pain that other pillows could not. The down side is now a year and a half later, it has completely lost the ability to keep shape. I took out 2 or 3 of the internal layers originally, and so swapped the unused ones back in to get more life out of it, but they just don't keep their shape for long at all. The internal layers (mini-pillows) have some sort of stuffing that spreads out and leaves the middle empty. Fluffing them up doesn't work after a while because they get clumpy. So I'm left with the problem of... do I spend the huge dollar amount to cure my neck again, knowing that it will only last for about a year? Or do I try other pillows? I've tried memory foam (too stiff and hurts my ear when I switch from back to side), I've tried one latex (not bad, but too thick and firm, I might try another brand/style), and a million different cheap pillows all of which don't last or are no good. Anyway, if these guys figure out a better stuffing material, it's definitely a great concept.
Been trying to find a good pillow for years. (Bad lumbar, fused neck). Wasted lots of money. This is great. Bought an extra Pancake pillow case and split it into a 3/2 pillows configuration with one left over and am very comfortable. To help keep neck level, may reduce the three pancakes in the pillow to two. WARNING: if you put these into a cover pillow case that is too small, they, as any pillow, will feel hard! Make sure your covering pillow case is not tight. Buy oversized pillow cases for it, or make your own out of sheets. Cases sold retail are ridiculously small.
