Last year, I bought a bed from them and had an excellent experience. This time, we looked at a new bed for our new place, and after settling on a $360 bed, I left my partner to finish the transaction. While I was in the bathroom, somehow things went from &360 to about $1000, including $80 of warranty crap my partner says she declined, but she was frazzled and obviously fell victim to some pressure tactics and add-on upswell as well as confusing labeling. I'd recommend against sending family here for that alone. I was very clear that we were not there to spend a lot of money, and if I'd been there to check out, we'd have just left. The whole sales to finance thing reeks of used car dealership tactics in my mind. It's not like a store with a register, and I'd hate to think what our outcome would be if we had financed! We had explained to the sales person that we were going to be furnishing a large 4 bedroom house, as we are moving from a cramped 2 bedroom where we didn't even buy bedroom furniture outside of the bed. After this, we won't be furnishing the house from here.

If I could give 0 stars I would. The furniture itself seems decent, and they have a large variety/selection. While the sales team is nice, I would triple check the piece of furniture you are buying is available. I found a couch I liked, was told it was available only to find out it had already been sold. The saleswoman I was working was very nice and had someone call another store. I was told it was available there, I could purchase the couch that day, and they would call on Monday with an update. My card was charged for over $1,000 and then Monday came and went with no call. I had to call Tuesday and was told the couch was unavailable. Very upsetting that no one thought to call me after getting charged over $1,000 for a couch that didn't exist. I asked to speak to a manager because while each person was polite there was obviously a breakdown in team communication. He offered an apology, and then just tried to sell me another couch.... doubt I will go back. Honestly, I just moved and was looking to furnish most of my house, but I can't go back to that place. I find it astounding that they didn't wait until Monday to take payment pending availability of the couch. It was not at all made clear to me that the couch was not available, I was told it was available and would be delivered to me soon. Very disappointed.

I was a little hesitant to shop at Schewel's because of the other reviews but I'm so glad I decided to go anyways. We had a great experience shopping for a new bedroom set and mattress. Our salesperson, Eileen, was informative and helpful but not pushy at all. Our furniture arrived several weeks before we expected it and the scheduling and delivery of our furniture was wonderful. The drivers even waited while I picked up my daughter from the bus stop since they arrived near the end of the delivery window. It was a great experience overall. I'll update if the furniture has any issues but seems to be great furniture so far.

We bought a beautiful sectional grey couch with additional furniture. A week later it was deemed as backorder so we received it at a later date. The delivery team are true artists getting the furniture through tight spaces. The order was not complete but the delivery team went above and beyond to correct the mistake the same day.

I wish I could write a better review.... but, the sofa we purchased there literally fell apart. I should preface by saying we did buy the sofa in the 'budget section', but that does NOT mean that it should be breaking in multiple places less than 4 months later. Very disappointingly, they would not do anything for us. No discount on another sofa, no help fixing the one we bought, nothing. In fact, the 'manager' I spoke with in person was not even allowed to do such thing without consulting with the owner first. We agreed that she would pass on what was happening to him the following morning and he would contact me. The next day a sales person called and left the bad news on my voicemail. I understand store policy, but a 400+ dollar sofa should not last less than 100 days.

I purchased a sectional from them almost two weeks ago, and it has yet to be delivered. They have pushed the date of delivery back three times. When I called to get a delivery date, the woman said she would call me back and never did. The sectional won't be delivered until next week. If I had known it would take so long to get it delivered, I probably would have gone with another store because I just moved here and have been forced to sit on the ground while waiting for the sectional to arrive.

It would be amazing to write a review that was more positive than the review I will be writing. The first set of furniture that we purchased from here was great; the customer service as well as the merchandise were great. The formal dining room table as well as the living room set were both quality made and sturdy. .......THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However, most recently, the service was great, after that the experience has been a DISASTER AND AWFUL! We will NOT plan to shop there again. So, after we purchased the items, on the day of the delivery...nothing. Mind you, we'd sold our entire house of furniture planning for the date of delivery. (Nothing was on back order when we placed the order-they looked-or so they said). The day of the delivery, NOTHING! When we called, the store representative that we spoke to was RUDE and said that 'I called and left you a message on your home phone'. Mind you, I reiterated when we made the purchase that they were NOT to leave messages there and to use our cell phones-Noted it in the file. She continued to be argumentative expressing in pretty clear terms to get over it because she'd left a message. The store manager did call back later to apologize for her unprofessionalism. He said they would be sending our sofa-which was in stock but the love seat was on back order. After we explained it was super bowl weekend and we'd have company, he offered to have a loaner love seat sent and informed us that the dinette set would be delivered. The bed we ordered did finally arrive...however, no head board or foot board! NONE of these items were listed on back order, they didn't call even when I gave the number....again to call. SO, today, when I check my HOME phone which they were told not to use and PROVIDED the correct number, who do I hear on the voicemail...Schewels trying to set up a delivery. I'm not sure if this is intentional, lack of clearly reading the file to use our cell numbers, lack of the first mix up over a month ago or just poor management or poor customer service, or all of the above. It has been almost two months, as we just (maybe) are about to get our furniture.

I wish I could give them a better review. But the leather couch and a recliner chair I bought with them for around 1500$ started peeling off within 2.5 years and I did have protection plan which I learned recently did not cover for the peeling couch. When I went to inquire with them they just asked me to call the manufacturing company (Southern Motion) and that Schewels cannot help. First, I felt cheated when I thought I bought a good leather couch but they sold me some cheap bonded leather. Second, no help has been offered me to fix it irrespective of having 5 year protection plan with Schewels. If they have come forward and took some responsibility in fixing the couch or offered me some help, I wouldn't mind spending my money for the same. But no calls were returned by the manager. Why do we have to buy the couch in store rather than ordering online? Only because it is a local business and if anything like this happens we can get some help. But that was not happened in this case.

I have had nothing but terrible experience after terrible experience with Schewels since day one. My furniture was delivered and my reclining/rocker loveseat was off balance and uneven. After many calls and weeks of waiting someone finally arrived to look at and repair the loveseat. A simple fix took over four weeks to accomplish and each time I called to follow up, it was as if it was the first time they had spoke to me. Fast forward about 8 months and my recliner and couch are falling apart. We purchased their 'lifetime extended warranty' however the concerns I have about my furniture are 'not covered'. Apparently, their lifetime warranty only covers stains and the motors only on the furniture. They are still having someone come out and take a look to make sure that they will not cover the repairs. I called on Sunday July 8th to make the claim, at that time I was told that they would send someone out on Thursday July 12th to inspect. I received a call today from their 'home repair department' who said that the earliest appointment would be August 4th and they were not sure why I was given a date of July 12th. Now I have to wait almost 4 weeks again just to be seen and should any parts be required, they place the order and schedule again for service. I think that it is extremely unreasonable to wait over two months to have any repairs done, not to mention they are not always the nicest people to deal with along the way. Needless to say, moving forward I will not be purchasing any furniture from Schewels again.
The associates in the...
The associates in the Collinsville, Va. store were great. They assisted me in placing a special order for a bed and night stand. The associate promised delivery in 4 to 6 weeks and the paper work indicated 4 weeks. I never received my order and canceled it 64 days later. After checking with the furniture factory I found out that the products I wanted were stock items. My order was sent to the Lynchburg Distribution center of Schewels and sat there waiting for free trucking space to get it to the store. The store made repeated calls but could not get any resolution on getting my order shipped. I placed the identical same special order with another company and received my order in less than 4 weeks. If you are buying stock items you may be satisfied. I would never order anything else from them.
Worst customer service after...
Worst customer service after the sale i've every experienced. They are sweet, kind, and helpful until you walk out the door. I purchased a sofa and love seat, and at the one year mark the sofa starting ripping at the seams. I called, and was told to send pictures of the damage. I did, and heard nothing. Then my repeated attempts to reach a manager went unanswered. Finally yesterday I called their corporate office and finally had a manager call me back. The manager, Angie, was extremely condescending and rude. She basically told me that I Should have contacted them sooner, even though I had attempted to. Then I was transferred to a male manager named Stacy. As I tried to describe my conversation with Angie, he made it clear that he had been sitting right next to her while I was on the phone with her, and he didn't need to hear my side. At this point I asked to have the phone number at corporate for who was THEIR boss. I left a voice mail with this woman, and just received her call back. She basically said that I bought 'entry level' furniture, so what did I expect? She backed up the charlottesville managers, and told me that it didn't bother her that I would know longer shop in her store because thats 'the nature of the business.' This company does NOT care about keeping customers, and clearly their employees are allowed to mock unsatisfied customers. Don't use this company!
I got a mattress...
I got a mattress there . It has a 20 year warranty first one was coming apart. so they they took it back before we had even sat on it. The second one we have had 3 months. It is falling apart. I have got nothing but a run around with them. Schewels they sold it but don't care how it makes them look and they keep blaming simmons manufacturing. Never buy at schewels and don't buy a simmons product... Poor Poor Poor customer service skills..

I do not recommend purchasing furniture from schewels, and IF you absolutely have to, DO NOT let the guys they have delivering the furniture at the west broad street location deliver or come into your home. My fiancé and I went in, I will say, Mae and all the ladies at the front desk helped us and made the process very smooth! Got delivery set up, and the payments set up. Upon delivering the furniture the two gentlemen that were bringing stuff in were EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. One gentleman came upstairs and was very confused on how to get the furniture into my apartment, the second sat outside talking on the phone the ENTIRE time while the other was in my apartment putting the furniture together, two pieces of furniture were damaged and they couldn't even deliver the night stand because it was 'in total disarray'. I called the store, and requested a replacement for the damaged dresser, and to figure out what could be done about the night stand, the manager said we'd have to wait until Thursday unless we wanted the display night stand (which my fiancé went to pick up himself). I left my apartment to pick my daughter up from school, and when leaving I noticed my door key was not on my key chain, I then panicked but thought maybe I had misplaced it. I had left my apartment one time to go check on the furniture that was still outside where the gentlemen was supposed to be putting it together, instead was on the phone & at that time the guy that was upstairs in my apartment had TAKEN MY KEY OFF OF MY KEY CHAIN. I called the store because I thought maybe he just grabbed it by mistake, or it fell off, trying not to assume the worst. The store manager, Melissa was very unapologetic and instantly started defending her 'guys' which is what she called the delivery drivers, I knew they had taken my key. (For whatever reason, not sure why they took my apartment key but I had not taken it off and the only other person that was in my apartment was one other guy setting up the dressers.) So after my fiancé went to the store to pick up the nightstand and talk to the manager, she still didn't want to give us anything other then 'I don't know what to say' 'I don't know why they would have taken your key' WELLL they did. After searching for the key for hours, we finally found the key outside IN THE GRASS next to the dolly cart they also left on the ground outside of my apartment. I HAD NOT EVEN STEPPED FOOT WITHIN 30 feet of where the key was found. Long story short, I WILL be calling corporate, those employees WILL be fired and there will also be some sort of compensation for my headache and time spent searching for the key that her delivery drivers attempted to take. Whether they took it and accidentally dropped it, or when confronted about the key they panicked and drove by after hours to throw the key. Whatever, something will be done about this. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM!

Was going to look at the furniture but with the terrible reviews about the 3rd party not taking care of things and the store not following up with customer service I will shop other furniture stores for my office & living room furniture! Even though I've never been I couldn't post without giving a star so that's why it one star......
The quality of furniture...
The quality of furniture is above the other chains. I do not reccomend purchasing the addittional furniture warranty though. I had an issue with a bed frame and have yet to receive a follow up from the third party company for resolution. It hAs been several months.

I can't say enough about the customer service we received at the Schewels on Broad St. We had to go there 3-4 times to change our order and each time they were friendly, accommodating, and professional. Mae, our sales representative was very attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. I would recommend you see her to get the best experience. We used Progressive Leasing for our financing and Vicki, the in-House finance guru, was AMAZING with how she handled our many change requests. She coordinated everything with Progressive Leasing. We couldn't have been happier with our purchase and our experience at Schewels.

I wish I could have given them NEGATIVE STARS! This business is a ripoff who doesn't stand behind their product nor their WARRANTY!!! They use third party repair companies, who came by my place to repair my couch after it had torn. They didn't fix the tear (I mean come on now, how hard is it to stitch something up) and then multiple times after the two initial visits from two separate third party repair companies, now they don't even show up when the appointments are scheduled. I finally had to get the BBB involved. Outrageous response!!! They told the BBB that they were 'Going through New Management' and because of the transition that had absolutely nothing to do with me, they said they couldn't honor my warranty now since it was outside of the warranty period time... What?!?!? You sent third party repair companies out to my home twice, who couldn't fix the issue. You then were going through new management which was why I couldn't get repair people here when appointments were scheduled. And now you are telling me 'sorry, we can't help you' because my sofa is no longer under warranty because your business was a complete mess, which has nothing to do with my problem... WHAT A JOKE!!!! BEWARE!!! DO NOT BUY FURNITURE FROM THESE PEOPLE.. THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT OR THEIR WARRANTY!!!!

We purchased the furniture from the store on West Broad and we are very impressed with the help and assistance we received. Everyone that helped us were super friendly and very accommodating. So a big thank you to Derek, Melissa and Vickie.

I was on vacation and looked up this company's website online after driving back from DC one day after seeing their name alongside Route 7. I checked it out and found they had a really good price for a closeout bluetooth speaker so I stopped by to check it out. I was greeted by John who located the product, confirmed the price, and wrote up the purchase invoice. Other staff in the store were friendly as well. This store reminds me a lot of McMahan's Furniture, another family-run chain in California that has long since closed but when I was in the market for new bedroom furniture, gave me my first opportunity to earn store credit.

I'm done doing business with this place. The sales staff is not the problem it's the financial department. False advertising abound with this company. No down payment no interest no payment until march, turned into 200$ down can't defer payments and I didn't even let her get to the interest because I stopped her. We have made several purchases from that store but are treated worse than a new customer off the street. She said read the fine print. That's what a scam artist would say. I don't want to do business with a store that lies like a politician running for office and you should think twice before you do too. I hope someone sues them for false advertising and deceptive business practices.

Received my furniture today by Schewels delivery. They were helpful and courteous. I even noticed a very small defect and received a reimbursement. Thank so much for great customer service!
I love this store....
I love this store. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable of all there products. It is nice to be able to get new household items and have a very reasonable payment plan. All of the items are well known brand names so the quality is always top of the line.
Bought a new bed--delivered...
Bought a new bed--delivered last Thursday. I told the setup guys that it looked awfully high- they said that's how it was supposed to be! When I got home from work that night and measured--it was 32 inches high-I'm 5'4'--I needed a stepstool to crawl up into my new bed!! Not Happy!! Called the store the next morning and less than 3 hours later they brought a smaller foundation and apologized for the inconvenience!! I have dealt with them numerous times over the last 15 years and have never had a problem except for this one which was remedied the next day!! Would highly recommend this store!!

Months later and I thought I needed to come in and give an update. After filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and talking with the store manager, they came and picked up the chair and gave me a full refund. I ended up going to Wolf's Furniture and bought a really nice Lazy Boy recliner for a little less than what I paid at Schewels' and I am happy with my new recliner. Will definitely go back to Wolf's Furniture.

We came looking for furniture and visited this location. The staff were friendly but seemed to lack knowledge of their furniture. It seemed more as though they just wanted us to pick out what we wanted and they make the sale. The lack of five stars is mostly due to the old musty building...Schewels corporate should definitely invest in building their own stand alone store.

From the time I stepped into Schewel Furniture in Staunton VA, I had nothing but an outstanding experience!. The staff from management, sales department and all the way to the delivery personal, were fantastic! I have never in my entire life had such an experience. When my furniture was delivered, the people were awesome. They were the most helpful, nicest, and very respective. I cannot put into words exactly how much the experience was! I even commented to their manager how terrific the delivery personal were. If I purchase more furniture in the near future, I will choose them and hope I get the same experience as this time. I hope that I get the same delivery personal as this time. Great outstanding and very satisfying experience!!!

If you haven't stopped in lately you might want to! As we approached the storefront, we were pleasantly surprised to see the more 'at home' displays in the windows! What a difference from the 'warehouse look', good job Daniel and crew!! We also recently purchased 5 new mattresses without any problems and they were delivered within a couple of days! Would purchase there again!!
