Karl's video entry for the 2017-2018 Slumber Search Disrupt $1,000 Scholarship was the Movie Theater Stream. This is a revolutionary idea where movie production houses or theater groups like AMC could stream new releases into people's homes at the same time they are released in theaters across the country. Such a product, Karl noted in his video, could be provided as a subscription service and disrupt the entire movie theater industry as we know it.
Karl is an upcoming junior and current honors student at NYU with a sizzling 3.72 GPA and is majoring in drama and production. Combining his major with his personal pain for not finding anything to watch on Netflix and Hulu, he came up with this innovative idea and video.
Karl excelled at communicating his idea by spending serious time on post-production, shooting action shots, and directing the video while keeping it pointed and understandable for a complex business idea. Additionally, many of the foundations for this product to work are in place and he did well at communicating how it could be a disruption that isn't far off. All this work showcases his education as a producer as well as his strengths in critical thinking, communication, and empathizing with his audience.
Karl wants to continue on as an actor, director, and producer and has a passion for learning about other cultures across the globe. We are excited to be a part of Karl's college education and can't wait to see one of his inspiring movie disruptions hit our screens one day. Congratulations!
